Freshman year english

So this is the start of my new blog. I hope I can fully record everything to its best (just the way it happened).
So I will start out with my English lit class...

Right now I am listening to Radiohead's "go slowly", for the particular reason that it makes me calm and relaxed, as well as giving that whole phsycadelic drug effect (without the drugs). Which is something I need after a day like Friday, or the entire last week I suppose. After going to college now for about a month, I have realized that art people (plus the whole student hungering for knowledge factor) can be very opinionated. Sure every young college student must be, but I'm sure they all aren't as young screaming liberal artists are.
We just had finished watching Hamlet the last Friday before (I have my English class every Friday for three hours), the Kenneth Branagh version, because my English teacher is a retired actor/lost playwright. Thus usually everything we talk about falls back on either Shakespeare or some unforgotten Swedish play. Unknowingly so, we were taken into a feminist world brought by Shakespeare's most admired character: the late Ophelia (pun).
Reading and comparing another character in play, we focused on the reason why such a woman was chosen to represent most of us ladies. After taking off on a nauseating roller coaster ride of back and fourth conversation and debate, I was starting to get worn out. Don't get me wrong, I love listening to people. It just sucks though when most of us get caught up in arguing in the wrong way. The wrong way in the meaning that we end up going no where. That's when it becomes frustrating.
One guy in my class, (bless his heart) decided to take a stand for men and women by saying, "I think the girl should be taken care of in every way. I mean I don't want to say that a girl is a fragile thing in the wrong way, but as a guy I think we all are given the divine right to take care and love such a precious person as a girl." I'm not trying to be all big fish at all when I say this, but that is what he really said. After hearing this, most of us girls reputed a faithful "Amen!", while some of us decided to thus further dig deeper into the argument with this end result: We are therefore we think? I think?
It saddens me when we argue so much on something that we come to the realization that we are nothing. We are nothing, but hey, we can THINK. that's all that matters. In my opinion, if that's all that matters, then we live a sad life. I do love the fact though that many of us feel comfortable enough to think about things to try to figure out a just reason why. Thinking is really a key factor in everything I have found, especially in college. Like, How much time do I need to get up in the morning to get to school and get a coffee? Do I really need to lose my pre-freshman four pounds? Do I really need my coffee to add to that weight? Yes... I need my coffee.
See? Very important thinking.
After everyone responded to this guy, chase's comment, and turned onto another roller coaster ride of their own in important inquiry, I just stared at him. I couldn't help it. I wanted to look into these guys eyes and see if he was really legit or not. After staring at him for a good few seconds, he caught my eyes and returned the gaze. It was then I could see he was legit, and passionate. A good true artist, I thought. Without any hesitation I smiled at him. He gave me a quizzical smile back.
This gave me comfort because I felt like there was someone else in the room who held the same look on life. That all of us are more important than just only thoughts. We are human, but we are more, and we were made for so much more.
